Supporting a Healthy Body for a Brighter Future
Empowering Health, Hygiene, and Well-Being for Disadvantaged Communities
We believe that a healthy body is the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future. Our programs focus on providing essential health and hygiene services to disadvantaged children and communities, ensuring they have access to the care and resources they need to thrive. From health camps to menstrual hygiene education, emergency relief during crises, and partnerships with tribal communities, our mission is to build a healthier tomorrow for those in need.
Our Projects In India
Health Camps
Our health camps offer a lifeline to disadvantaged children by providing them with their first access to basic healthcare. Through health screenings, hearing and vision tests, and dental checkups, we ensure that these children are healthy and ready to learn. For many, these camps represent their first interaction with medical professionals, making them an invaluable service for early health intervention.
Clean Safe Bathrooms
Access to clean and safe bathroom facilities is a basic necessity that many children in Telangana llack. More than 60% of school-age children in the region are forced to relieve themselves in public, exposing them to health risks and compromising their dignity, especially for young girls.
Through Project Dignity, we are working to address this urgent issue by building safe, clean bathrooms in schools.
At Dammaiguda Government School near Hyderabad, Telangana, we’ve provided new restroom and toilet facilities that ensure privacy, cleanliness, and safety, empowering young girls and promoting hygiene and dignity
Menstrual Health and Hygiene
Menstrual health and hygiene are critical issues affecting young girls and women across India.
Our Project Dignity addresses these issues by educating girls on menstrual health, providing sanitary products, and advocating for better hygiene practices.
Through workshops, hygiene fairs, and access to sanitary pads, we help girls manage their menstruation confidently and safely, both at home and at school.
Period Dignity Project - ITDA Paderu Partnership
We are proud to announce that the Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) in the Paderu district of Andhra Pradesh has partnered with The JJ Metta Foundation to help tribal women manufacture and distribute clean, affordable menstrual pads.
Through our Period Dignity project, we partnered with Jayaashree Industries, founded by India’s famous “Padman,” to provide equipment and raw materials. ITDA Paderu helped us identify a tribal women’s Self-Help Group responsible for the production and distribution of the pads.
Our local partner, Chetana Collective Foundation, coordinates Self-Help Group training. JJMMF also teamed with Andhra University’s School of Social Work to provide on-site support for the tribal women.
ITDA Paderu and JJMMF have agreed to an ambitious schedule. Our goal was to produce menstrual pads within six months and to turn over the project completely to the tribal women—empowering them with sustainable livelihoods while addressing menstrual hygiene needs in tribal communities of Andhra Pradesh.
Past Projects & Emergency Response
COVID-19 Emergency Relief (2020-2021)
During the COVID-19 pandemic, ANEW responded rapidly to support vulnerable communities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana:
- Distributed sanitizers, masks, and hygiene kits to tribal people in the Araku region, Andhra Pradesh
- Provided meals, transportation, and portable oxygen generators to individuals and communities in need
- Ensured tribal and rural populations had access to critical health resources during the crisis
Heat Wave Relief
During life-threatening heat waves that dominated India's summer months, ANEW provided umbrellas to protect women street vendors who worked in temperatures exceeding 110 degrees Fahrenheit in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.
Support for Tribal Communities - Dumbriguda
In Dumbriguda, a tribal area in Andhra Pradesh, we supplied the Partyusha Orphanage with:
- Shoes and sweaters for children during winter months
- Solar heaters for water heating, providing sustainable access to warm water for hygiene and bathing
This support ensured that children in remote tribal areas had access to basic necessities often taken for granted in urban settings.
